The Illinois Community College Board is pleased to announce this year's recipients of the Promising Practices designation. This award is given to Illinois Tech Prep consortia that demonstrate the outstanding nature of consortium-based practices that effectively address one or more of the six components of Tech Prep implementation. This year's winners were chosen through a blind selection process by a statewide team of experienced Tech Prep leaders. Background
This project is part of the FY07 research agenda of the Office of Community College Research and Leadership (OCCRL) with its sponsor, the Illinois Community College Board. Identifying, celebrating and sharing information about Promising Practices in Illinois Tech Prep consortia is an outgrowth of the statewide Tech Prep strategic planning effort conducted during FY06.

General Information
This designation signifies the outstanding nature of a consortium-based practice that effectively addresses one or more of the six components of Tech Prep implementation. The practice can be a service, activity, project, course, workshop, collaboration, or data sharing practice -- or any combination of these. Practices will be identified as "Promising" because they are innovative, have clearly stated goals, and have outcomes that demonstrate goals have been met or exceeded. In addition, the practices deemed promising must demonstrate their sustainability over time including sources of support within and outside of the consortium. A team of experienced Tech Prep leaders will rate the submissions and determine those eligible for the Promising Practice designation. There is no minimum number of designations that will be granted each year and efforts will be made to encourage submissions from all sizes of consortia representing all parts of the state. Consortia that are designated as having a Promising Practice will be expected to present their practice at the Forum for Excellence and encouraged to present it at other state and national meetings as local resources allow. In addition, Promising Practices will be featured on Illinois Tech Prep Strategic Planning website: http://occrl.ed.uiuc.edu/TPStrategicPlan/index.htm.

Selection Criteria
Nominations (including self-nominations) were rated on each of the following criteria:

  • Practice has effectively responded to a specific, demonstrated need
  • Practice has had a demonstrable impact on student outcomes, based on verifiable data
  • Practice is delivered in innovative or creative ways
  • Practice in its entirety or parts could be replicated and would be shared with other consortia
